(248) LIFE IS THE MOST FUN YOU'LL EVER HAVE

Al Capone got married in the year 1918.

Owning an amusement park will not necessarily make you happy. According to Ayn Rand, the basis of happiness is self-esteem, and, if you do not think highly of yourself, you cannot be happy.

In the wave of Michael Jackson information that has engulfed us the past few days, I have developed a new respect for him. He took care of his children and, according to various stories, he was a great father who loved his kids. Meanwhile, his father, Joe Jackson, should be prosecuted for child abuse.

Here's to George Beurling, a Canadian pilot who was fearless in the air. So much so that his nickname was "Screwball". He was shot down and survived, he crashed in a transport plane that overran the runway and survived. After the war, he volunteered to fly for Israel and, while ferrying a B-25 to Israel, the airplane crashed and George Beurling was killed at age 26. His war record: he shot down 28 enemy aircraft.

And speaking of unsung heroes, we have just celebrated Independence Day, and Thomas Nelson, Jr., must be mentioned. He was an original signor of the Declaration of Independence. He borrowed $2,000,000 on his personal credit and donated it to the cause of the Patriots. When the war was over, the government never reimbursed him and repaying the loans wiped out his entire estate. He died bankrupt and is buried in an unmarked grave. Never fear--the government will take care of you.
