(419) NO LAUGHS FOR THE WARY

I thought about writing something amusing, but the disaster in the Afghan war has put humor on hold. There was a report that the Taliban had been tipped off about the flight-plan of the helicopter and were lying in wait for its arrival. This sounds a whole lot like Pakistan. Has anyone thought about getting the United States out of there?

STOCK-MARKET: Will the downgrade of America’s credit rating affect your lifestyle? Not unless you let it. The currency of the United States is nothing but green paper and $1's worth of faith in the United States government. It has no intrinsic value. That would be okay, or at least passable but for the increase (inflation) of the money supply. When the US needs more money, we print more. Would furniture have any value if it could be produced by throwing a switch and making it at no cost? There is no difference between a $100 bill and a $1 bill except the printing machine is programmed to print $100 on the corner of the $100 bill and $1 on the corner of the $1 bill.

Also, stocks have been overvalued for ten years and this has nothing to do with the downgrade of the credit rating of the United States.

There is a frenzy of destruction in London. Someone was shot by a police officer. Certain members of the public responded with a violent outburst consisting of looting, burning and wholesale vandalism. The police shooting may have been illegal, but the reaction is definitely illegal. Thus illustrating the stupidity of the human animal. A girl who was involved in the looting and arson said, ‘This will teach the rich people and the government that we have to be dealt with.’ If the burning and vandalism increased her net worth, she might have something to talk about, but wholesale destruction did nothing to enhance her station in life.

Plato was right--we will never know peace.
