(420) BERLIN

Fifty years ago, August 13, the Russians built a wall separating East Berlin from west Berlin. The reason they elected to build the wall was simple: two million people had fled East Germany into West Germany. They didn’t do this because Communism was a superior system, they did it because living under a Communist system was miserable.

The fellow who wrote the article said that eight million soldiers died, and fifteen million civilians died, in the taking of Berlin. This is wrong. If you started in Moscow and marched south, along the way eight million soldiers may have died. However, Berlin was teetering on the brink of collapse, and Patton was racing to Berlin to deliver a knock-out blow, but he was ordered to stop and let the Russians take Berlin for political reasons! After the war was over, Patton said, ‘Within 24 hours, I can get us engaged in a war with Russia and make it look like it was their fault. Since we have our armies here, and since conflict with Russia is inevitable, let’s take advantage of the opportunity and kill the bastards.’ Unfortunately, his request was ignored, which set off a nuclear-arms race that might still be going on. Every time it appears there is peace, we find the Soviets are supporting some insurrection, rebellion, or satellite war. Of course, it is impossible to support a satellite war if they did not have an opponent–and we be that opponent.

The USA told Khaddafi to get rid of his nuclear weapons, and he did. Now we are supporting NATO, who is staging air-strikes against Khaddafi. We are backing NATO, and we have Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and the proposed war in Syria with which to deal. The former Soviet Union is supporting some of these regimes. I heard some nutcase on televison this weekend saying that Khaddafi was killing civilians, ergo, we are authorized by the power ested in ourselves to support an anti-Khaddafi war. The Chinese have been killing dissenters for years. As I have frequently said, the difference is we can’t afford to get into any hassle with China, or they would kick our asses and send us home in a body bag. Perhaps even worse is that they would stop buying our worthless bonds and we would be bankrupt in about fifteen minutes. This illustrates the point that you should always be careful in picking your targets, and, thus far, we have avoided China, unless you count Korea, but that was long ago, so I don’t guess it counts.

Respectfully submitted,
Donald M. Heavrin,
A confused Citizen
